I was a practicing veterinarian from
1962 to 1970. I had a very high profile practice, specializing in equine and
then from 1970 to 1986 I worked as a consultant while God was training me. I
started Water of Life Church by the direction of God in 1980 but I practiced
consulting work six more years
God saved my life in 1969.
I was doing fertility tests on some bulls and the owner didn’t have extra help present to get them in the chute, and I told him I didn’t mind helping. An angus bull knocked me down against the wall, hitting me with his head. I remember at least two, I think three times he slammed me and I don’t remember anything else until I was standing on that bull’s back and he’s spinning trying to get me off. There was only one place where I could get off and escape that bull’s fury. Three sides of the enclosure we were in went to the loft’s ceiling but one side had an area that the wall was about six feet tall and I kept myself in position, standing on that bull’s back, until he spun to the right location and I jumped and landed on that wall.
My friend, John asked, “Doc, you ok? Doc, you ok? Doc, you ok?” and he kept asking till I finally said, “John if you’ll be quiet so I can catch my breath, I’ll be fine.”
Kathie: Now if anybody considers this,
when a bull’s got you down in the corner, and he’s ramming you with his
head, there is no way you can climb up on that head and onto his back.
Look, an angel set me on that bull’s
back. This bull was mad and he had me where I couldn’t have gotten out at
all. He knocked me down, he had me parallel to the sill of that particular
stall, pounded me with his head and I don’t remember anything until I was
standing on his back. Now, that might not mean anything to you, I was a
large animal veterinarian, primarily equine, but I did a lot of work with
bulls and that rascal got me. So, God is with me, I know that.
Another time, I had a stallion come
after me, about 10:00 or 11:00 at night. He turned and when he turned, his
tail started going like that, angry, coming right at me and I waited until
he got close, I knew how to handle myself with animals and just when I
thought, “You got to go, side step him,” I slipped and fell, the only time
in all my years as a veterinarian that I ever slipped. I hit the ground on
my face, I laid there a couple seconds, looked up, that stud, a thoroughbred
horse, 1400 pounds-- [Kathie: And studs will kill] Oh, they’ll kill you.
There he stood, looking up at the sky. I knew an angel had him by the
halter, “Come up here.” I got up and walked off. They came and got
the stud, took him to another veterinarian and he died. God took him out of
my life.
Kathie: The story, I’ve shared before, I
was a young girl playing out in the yard with my sister my mother who was
not a spiritual woman, heard in her spirit, “Go get the girls,” and she
brought us in and five minutes later a car went through the guard rail and
landed right where we were playing. That was God, sent his angels to get us
out of the situation.
Hebrews tells us angels are ministering
spirits, sent to minister to the heirs of salvation, not just minister to
those that are saved, but heirs of salvation.
Hebrews 1:
14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent
forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?
Listen, I’ve seen angels in operation. I got kicked out of the barn
twice by horses, one of them caught me right there and I went flying through
the air. Another one came looking for me with her back feet, and I was in
the hall of a barn, it had an aluminum gate closing it, and it had a door,
but the gate was all that was there and that gate was about 18 inches above
the ground level and this mare started looking over her shoulder and she
came after me with both feet flying back, she just kept kicking and pushing
off with her front feet and she backed me in the corner, where the gate and
that hall wall was, and I got ahold of her tail, and got right up to her
rump and I held it and she was kicking me, kicking me, and I was watching
for a place to go and I thought, “There’s only one place to go and that’s
hit the ground and roll under that gate.” So, she slammed me good and when I
knew it was right I was like a shot, hit the ground and rolled under that
gate. The next morning, I was black and blue from my groin to my ankles and
I stayed that way for about a month.
[Kathie: But nothing was broken.] No. [Kathie: Black and blue, but alive] Oh yes. God got my attention, he did.
The horse that kicked me in the ribs, I
saw his foot coming and I fell into it and the hock caught me, not the hoof
and it just threw me out. The next morning I went to the hospital and my
friend, Dr. Sims stuck two large needles right under my ribs to see if there
was any hemorrhage on the diaphragm and when there was no blood, I was
happy, the liver wasn’t ruptured, and for thirty days I could hardly
straighten up. Some people from Oklahoma that had some good race horses came
to see me and they were looking for some property and I said, “Well, I know
some that you could probably lease” so we went out and I was so hurt that I
could hardly stand up and this guy said, “Doc I hate to tell you this but
there was horse kicked a man at Four Sixes Ranch just last week or two and
he bled to death before they could get him to the doctor, ruptured his
liver,” and I thought, “Be nice if you’d shut up.”
God was dealing with this man and I was
happy to be alive.
God bless you,
