Praying for All Those in Authority
Posted September 13, 2006
I Timothy 2:1-8 says, "I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; v.1
For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.v.2
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; v.3
Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. v.4
For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; v.5
Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. v.6
Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity. v.7
I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting." v.8
In these passages of scripture, we are exhorted to pray for kings and for all that are in authority. President Bush has been set up by God as the President of the United States. We can learn this from Daniel 2:21, "And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:"
For years I have heard about the presidential curse, "The Tecumseh Curse," that all presidents that were elected in a year ending in zero would die in office. I believe we as Christians should have the mind of the Spirit and that we can bless those that curse our President and others in authority. I believe that through our prayers we can turn those curses away from our leaders. The Apostle Paul writes in Romans 12:14 that we should, "Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not."
I would ask all that have an ear to hear what the Spirit of God is saying, to bless President Bush's enemies, and bless those that curse him. I would also ask the same prayer for all that are in authority in America.
There is an article in the Washington Post by Kevin Sullivan - Washington Post Foreign Service on September 2, 2006. The article is about the film entitled, "The Death of A President." This is described as a documentary-style television film. I want to say that I take authority in the name of Jesus, and I bind the spirit of that film and bless those that have made the film.
God bless you,
