Deuteronomy 18

Deuteronomy 18:15-22 says, "The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken; v.15 (KJV)

The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own brothers. You must listen to him. v.15 (NIV)

According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not. v.16 (KJV)

For this is what you asked of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the assembly when you said, Let us not hear the voice of the Lord our God nor see this great fire anymore, or we will die. v.16 (NIV)

And the Lord said unto me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. v.17 (KJV)

The Lord said to me: What they say is good. v.17 (NIV)

I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. v.18 (KJV)

I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers; I will put my words in his mouth, and he will tell them everything I command him. v18 (NIV)

And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. v.19 (KJV)

If anyone does not listen to my words that the prophet speaks in my name, I myself will call him to account. v.19 (NIV)

But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die. v.20 (KJV)

But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death. v.20 (NIV)

And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the Lord hath not spoken? v.21 (KJV)

You may say to yourselves, "How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?" v.21 (NIV)

When a prophet speaketh in the name of the Lord, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the Lord hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him." v.22 (KJV)

If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously. Do not be afraid of him." v.22 (NIV)
